I am extremely disappointed with my GE refrigerator. I have owned it for less than two years, and it has already broken down five times. A refrigerator that is supposed to be a reliable major appliance should not require this many repairs in such a short period of time. Each breakdown has been frustrating, disruptive, and inconvenient, especially considering how much I paid for the appliance. At this point, I have serious concerns about the quality and reliability of this refrigerator and the amount of money I have spent dealing with repeated problems. Five breakdowns in under two years is simply unacceptable. I expected much better from GE and would have a very difficult time recommending this refrigerator to anyone looking for a dependable appliance.

Some not great features

. It keeps everything cold however, the parts that don™€™t work well are a huge hindrance. First off. You cannot see the screen at all. You also cannot fit a water bottle in the water dispenser and the freezer will be left open and the alarm will not sound causing products in the freezer to go bad.

A few drawbacks

The ice/water dispenser opening is too short for water bottles - you can't fill a water bottle with ice without having ice slide out the sides and onto the floor. The freezer drawer always opens with the freezer too, which I didn't realize when I bought it - that is inconvenient. And there is a loud, constant humming noise that our previous unit didn't have.

POOR PRODUCT, POOR SERVICE, POOR COMPANY

This refrigerator was delivered May 30th. We've now had 5 ... yes 5 service calls (where you have to block out 4-5 hours of your schedule for their arrival) and the ice maker still does not work at all. Each service technician has 'found' a different problem and apparently the companies that GE hires to service their equipment don't talk. Today, on the recommendation of service tech #4, they were to install a new door. BUT GE insurance didn't approve it and told the tech (#5) to install a new ice maker. Well, we've already had a new ice maker installed along with 2 new values by tech #2. So ice maker #3 is in and not working and tech #5 promises to get a new door. I called their consumer relations dept. and they were so rude to me. I will NEVER purchase another GE appliance! And by the way, I'd give it 0 stars but I don't have that option. So sad ... they used to be a reputable company.

Very happy with new refrigerator. Runs quietly, keeps food at great temperature. Not sure about fingerprint resistance but no problem for me. Occasionally when ice not constantly used, water gets into ice container and causes bulk in bin to freeze together not allowing for cubes to fall. Again, manually dislodging solves issue. All good here!

Bought new, we have had it for about 2 years. We have been overall happy with it, but need to figure out why the fridge frost up pretty bad at times. Behind bottom drawers. The shelfs are rather simple to take out and clean. But need to replace rubber around door and plastic shelves in door.

Problems with Frige

I love the refrigerator: convenience of two French doors, the space. However, when something falls behind the freezer drawer, you won't be able to tell unless you physically lift one of the heavy bins up to see. Then it's hard to get the item that fell back there, out. **Also, I replaced my filter and the "replace filter" light is still on, plus my water won't work, as a result. Now I have no water, and no ice. I'm very upset. What should I do?

Annoying Modulating Whiring Sound

Overall, I™€™m disappointed with this refrigerator. While it cools properly and looks nice, the fan noise is much louder and more irritating than I expected for a brand-new appliance. The lower fan speeds produce a noticeable whir/whine that is constantly present in a quiet room. They even try to justify the noise in the owner manual. The whiring sound also modulates, adding to the that annoying sound. Oddly enough, the noise actually improves when Turbo Cool is enabled and the fan runs faster. It is slightly louder but consistent. Unfortunately running on Turbo cool constantly is not a sustainable solution. After researching, it seems many other owners report the same issue, which makes it feel more like a design flaw than an isolated problem. For the price, I expected a quieter and more refined appliance experience. If noise sensitivity matters to you, I would seriously consider other options.

We have had issues with the refrigerator prior to closing on the new home. The refrigerator does not sit level. No our freezer continues to frost and then de thaw damaging our food in the freezer. We have had service scheduled five times only three of those times somebody has come out. The best offer they are able to make is a $500 contribution to go out and buy a new refrigerator when the refrigerator for a brand new home was also new versus replacing the refrigerator.

This fridge is the worst I have ever had. I would give it a negative zero rating if possible. Ice maker does not work 85% of the time. I complained about it, but I was past the 30 day period to do so. They would come out for fee. Ice maker is terrible, do not buy if you like ice. It melts all over the floor. I paid a lot of money for this fridge, and Im forced to buy bags of ice at the store.

GE side by side fridge with bottom freezer

We like the size and the features of this model. Has an ice and water dispenser on the outside of the door. The bottom freezer is large and has the upper drawer for items we use more often. The compressor was quite loud when we plugged it in, which was a concern. removed the back metal cover and found that one of the rubber support feet was misaligned. Other than that it was a breeze to install and to set up.

Shelves and Ice dispenser bad design

Wish the designers would take into consideration the shelf placement and heights. You cannot put a gallon of milk or a 2 liter of pop on the bottom shelf in the fridge without raising the middle shelf. However raising this shelf leaves only a small shelf that you can barely even get your hand in, let alone put anything on. The top shelves cannot be raised and I wish they could. More shelving diversity would be great! The ice dispenser makes a mess if your cup isn™€™t all the way up to it and the water Spicket for dispensing water is in the way to get some glasses to the top so the ice doesn™€™t spit everywhere. Bad design.

This is for the 15 yr old GE frig that needed to be replaced. 4 defrost heaters were replaced along with their controls twice. Frozen water lines, poor ice service.... A constant source of troubles. Our food went into the 34 yr old fridge in our basement, old reliable. This new GE we shall see.....

Delivery yesterday was excellent. Generous Capacity. Configuration was very good. Efficiency great although only in use one day. Features excellent. Smaller size ice maker saves room. I like my new refrigerator, but it is making a whistling and sometimes grinding kind of noise. I have contacted GE service department and am waiting to hear back from them. The noise is really irritating, but I am sure that once the repair people finally show, the problem will be resolved,

Wildly inconsistent temperature, mostly unusable

The water dispenser failed 3 months in (still getting ice), and the temperature is inconsistent throughout the interior. I had to set the fridge to 39 because the default 37 causes 70% of the fridge to be below freezing. I set 4 thermometers inside to verify: top shelf under the water filter (1), top shelf toward the front (opposite corner)(2), climate zone drawer (3), and bottom full width drawer (4). T1 is at 44.2, T2 is 38.6, T3 is 33.4, and T4 is 21.2. The fridge is full except the full width drawer because it freezes everything. Airflow around contents is normal and not blocking any areas. The blower does not run constantly so I don™€™t believe the thermostat is faulty or that there™€™s a problem with door seal. We have had a nontrivial amount of food spoil or freeze. Minor gripes: the external control panel does not use backlighting so the controls are illegible except in bright sunlight (gray text on a gray panel). You™€™ll have to memorize the location of the water, cubed, and normal ice locations for nighttime use or illuminate it with your phone. I know™€¦1st world problems. I™€™m calling for warranty service and will update or write another review afterwards.

Most of the frige was fine. But the plastic holding up the shelves broke in the center, on the middle shelf, and the meats and cheese shelf

Bad Fridge

DO NOT PURCHASE. The compressor broke after 3 years and ran loud the entire life of the fridge when it did work. The cooling system is not covered in the warranty because it is not a cafe or profile model so now I have to buy a new fridge. It would cost $1,500 to fix with parts and labor. Also they make you buy $50 water filters because they have a dumb RFID chip that counts down 6 months and tells you to replace it. It is unnecessary and the same filters without RFID chips are $10.

Unacceptably Loud and Varied Noises = Unbearable

This is by far the noisiest refrigerator I™€™ve ever owned. The variable-speed compressor produces a constant array of sounds™€"pulsating hums, revving surges, high-pitched whines, and varying tones that change in pitch and volume throughout the day. It™€™s loud enough to hear across rooms, disruptive at night, and far worse than any previous fridge. GE calls it ™€œnormal™€ for efficiency, but the scope, variations, and overall loudness are excessive and unacceptable. Two stars only because it cools adequately; otherwise, I™€™d rate it lower.
